My Fashion Bucket List for Summer (Part One)

Hey Fashionista! Now that we're a couple days into summer 2013, and bucket lists are notorious for this season, I thought I'd create mine- in a fashion sense, of course, that would put me a little out of my comfort zone-- but, open up an exciting path for a fun season.  So, here's the first part of my fashion bucket list for summer!

1. Crochet Shorts.

For summer, I want to find the perfect crochet shorts that will look great with my short and curvy figure. As I've discovered, this one isn't so easy to pull off. (So when a girl looks fabulous in them, just know it probably took her a few (hundred) tries before finding the perfect ones!) :)

2. Bright Yellow Bag w/ the Perfect Stripe Dress

I've never owned a yellow handbag in my life. I'd love to find the perfect one and match it with a fabulous striped dress and fedora for an east coast style vibe...even though I've never been. Ha!  ((Hey, one day! :))

3. Graphic Tank

First of all, I cried of laughter when I saw this tank top on Pinterest, but also thought, 'wow, you have to be ballsy to wear a graphic tank that states a strong opinion.' You really have to be brave to face people's reactions and silent (or not so silent) opinions of what you're wearing. LoL. I definitely wasn't born with thick skin, but you know what, when a tank is this effin' great, you've gotta not care what other people think and wear it out!  Getting over my fear of other people's judgement is a worthy fear to ditch this summer!

4. Black Sassy Sandals

I've been following this girl on Instagram who somehow gets to travel to all these fabulous foreign countries and wears the most amazing clothes ever. (How does one get that kind of job???? lol) Anyway, she featured these crazy sexy black high strappy sandals that I'd LOVEEE to wear out somewhere with a mini-black dress. Shoe shopping here I come!!

5. Crop Top w/Maxi

Another daring statement, but fabulous nonetheless! It trumps the belly-button-midriff song-and-dance and is very flattering.  I love how it shows a peek of an entirely new piece of your stomach, which can still be very flattering! But I wonder if it will look great on my figure? Hmmm. This one may also take time to find but I believe it's worth the effort!

6. DIY Graphic Nails

I have a tendency to be impatient with myself when attempting to paint my nails perfectly, which only puts more pressure on myself and causes more frustration. Not the greatest tactic and must drop this one! Which we all would benefit from if we practiced more patience with ourselves --- especially when learning something new! Aren't we supposed to be our own best friend? And best friends always encourage us and have patience with us, so I will apply that same method (to more areas of my life!) and attempt anchor nails this summer...or maybe for 4th of July next week!

Well, Fashionista, that wraps up the first part of my summer fashion bucket list! I'm sure as we get further into summer there will be more trends I want to try that will push me out of my comfort zone.  But the most important lesson to take away from creating and checking off your own fashion bucket list is this...

Most of the things we want to do in life revolves around embracing our fear of what other people will think about our dreams. Sometimes they will judge you or say something offensive, but you know what, who cares? You only have this one life to live and most people are more afraid than you to live their dreams, which is why they aren't very supportive. Bless them and continue on your journey. And remember to always go for what you want, fearlessly! You might look silly, you make fall down, but you might have the best time of your life! ;)

Wishing you a fabulous day, Fashionista!

How to Cut Jeans Into Shorts

Hey Fashionista!

I know I don't normally post on Sundays, but today I was inspired to create a quick video on Instagram showing everyone how easy it is to cut a pair of pants into shorts. And who doesn't like re-styling their clothes on a Sunday afternoon? Oh! Which reminds me! Did you hear that Instagram now has video capabilities on their site that allows users to share 15 second footage with their followers? Yep! I'm so excited about this because I can connect with you and share fashion tips in a fun and more interactive way- like, as if we're hanging out! :) So, go ahead and check out my 15 second video below on how to cut jeans into shorts with detailed steps listed below!

Step One: Lay your jeans flat on the floor. Measure from the crotch (sorry no better word for it! :) down 3" - make your mark on both sides.

Step Two: Fold one pant leg over the other.

Step Three: Cut across.  Don't worry about cutting super straight because you're just going to fold them up.

Step Four: Roll excess length up for a seamless look!

If you have a pair of printed denim or random jeans that you don't like wearing anymore, make them into shorts with these easy steps! No need to spend extra money on this, all you need are scissors, a ruler and an old pair of jeans and you're all set! I hope you enjoyed today's impromptu post! See you tomorrow!

3 Golden Rules to Balancing Prints & Color

Hey Fashionista!!

Two things are hot this summer: prints and vivacious colors.  When paired together in a balanced way, this combination can look stunning!  And if done wrong, it can look messy. Since this combination can be pretty tricky to pull off, I created 3 golden rules to balancing prints and colors so you can get it right every single time.  Read on for these easy tips that will get you looking fab this summer!

1. Balance: This a a biggie and the most important rule to balancing prints and color. If you're a new at this combination, pick ONE area you'd like to wear a print. For me, I chose polka dot denim.  Then pick the opposite piece in a solid color - (a chambray is a great basic and also considered a bold color since it infuses an outfit with a vibrant blue). That way ONE area will become to focal point of your outfit, which will create a sense of unity in your look.

2. Fit: This rule can be applied to any outfit (or any trend) you decide to wear this season. However, it's especially important to adhere to in this case to successfully put together prints and color. If you're wearing skinny jeans (like I am in this picture) then go for a top that's a little roomy but still gives you a good shape.  In other words, go a little tight on the bottom and keep it a little loose at the top.

3. Accessorize: (My favorite part of the outfit process!) To avoid looking chaotic, pick jewelry (like a statement necklace!) that's a similar color to what you're already wearing. Since I am wearing a light blue chambray, I decided to go for a light blue bubble necklace (you can shop this one here!) or I could've gone the pink route too.  Make sure your shoes blend well with your colorful look too. Since they won't be the "focal point" of your look, make sure they support the overall tone by being subtle. A neutral color like gold usually works every time.

Follow these 3 golden rules to balancing prints and color whenever you're dressing up for a date, a special occasion or just hanging out! It will always keep you looking hip for all the wonderful things to come! ((Oh, speaking of 'wonderful things' I'm having a 'Summer Sale' over at my Etsy Shop! Take 20% off your entire order until 6.16.2013!  Enter code: Summer! Check it out here!))  Wishing you a fabulous day, Fashionista!!

5 Ways to Accessorize Your Swimwear

Hey Fashionista!

In my part of The Universe (a.k.a., Southern California), I've been blessed with blue skies and warm weather. Today it's in the mid 80's and all I really wanna do is lay out and swim in the pool! However, I noticed my usual bikini and cover-up duo has gotten pretty snooze-tastic lately. And what happens when I get bored with style? I dive into what I fondly call the "remix process" to come up with new ways to liven things up.

Have you felt like that recently? Or maybe you just would like to know some fresh new ways to accessorize your swimwear? If so, then read on, and pick your favorite of the 5 ways to accessorize your swimwear, I listed below, that will satisfy your current taste in style. And.....most importantly.....get onto enjoying the fun and excitement bikini season has to offer!

For Your Inner-Preppy-Girl

Bright hues and gold bling are classic accents to your swimwear that look stunning for days spent lounging on the beach or...on a yacht. :)

All you need are: a pair of fabulous over-sized sunglasses + a bright fitted sweater + gold watch and stacked bracelets!)

Voila! Your yacht awaits!

For Your Inner-Wild-Child

If a hippy style is more your speed this summer, pair your bikini with a great graphic tee, a long beaded necklace, beaded bracelets and accent with a lovely hibiscus flower!

For Your Inner-Glamour-Puss!

One-piece suits aren't for grandma's.  However, if you aren't too careful, you could land in that zone.  To avoid that and to look more modern, try a belted one-piece swimsuit and layer it with long necklaces, bracelets and a fabulous beach hat. Who cares if you're jumping in the pool -- do those locks up and complete your glamorous poolside look!

For Your Inner-Bohemian-Beauty

An over-sized crochet blouse is always a winner during beach season. I love how effortlessly striking it can be when you get out of the water and throw one on. It makes life so much sweeter. My favorite accessory to pair with this look is a Fedora hat. (Shop this hat at my store!

For Your Inner-Sunflower

If you already have a Fedora, go for a bright hat and wear a chambray top with it! Layer a long necklace and you're totally chic for the beach!

I hope you enjoyed learning about 5 ways to accessorize your swimwear! Which one are you excited to try out this summer? I'd love to know! Wishing you a fabulous Monday, Fashionista!
