How to Re-Style Your Dress

Hey Fashionista!  I'm really excited about today's blog post: How to Re-Style Your Dress becauseeeeeeee it's the perfect solution to those oh-so-frequent wardrobe meltdowns --- you know.... the times you're frantically searching for an awesome outfit within minutes of being late to a date or special event? Yeah. That one.

I was in this predicament recently and discovered how to re-style my dress for a brand new look!

I should warn you, it's not the kind of tip you're thinking......

Here it is!!

Take a dress with a simple silhouette like mine below....

And, find a SKIRT that matches the bottom half of your dress and LAYER it!
For example, a high-waist, a-line skirt layers well with this silhouette because it mimics the shape.

In order to seamlessly pull this look off, the skirt must be the same length (or longer) of the dress.

Here are the few other looks I came up with when I re-styled my dress...

This creation was my favorite, because I love ruffles and glamorous details.
This works beautifully for special events and/or occasions that call for dressing up.
All I did was layer my skirt on top of my dress.
It was the right length to overlap and cover the bottom portion of my dress.

I happened to have another a-line skirt to match the length of this dress.
Fashion Tip: If your alternate dress consists of darker hues, then make sure you add a pop of color with a great statement necklace.

Last but not least, my white a-line skirt with the navy top works very well together for this re-style.

When you're in a bind, and minutes away from your date, come back to this post: How to Re-Style Your Dress to remind you that you CAN create a brand new look with the clothes you already own. It just takes a patient eye to match up silhouettes and a few accessories to pull everything together! I hope you enjoyed today's post, Fashionista! Wishing you a wonderful week!

Q & A Fashionable Thursday: White Handbag

Q: Hey Fashionista!

I'm headed to L.A. this weekend for a convention - is it okay to carry a primarily white satchel handbag? (Has brown accents).

So hard to figure out what to wear when it's only 30 degrees in PA! :(

Thank you!

A: Hey Amanda!

Absolutely! White handbags are classic and versatile purses and are super hot to show off in L.A.! Not to mention, white blends well with many types of outfits.

Just make sure you buy a purse hanger (which is a small clip that keeps your purse off the ground for when you're out at a restaurant/bar, etc.) These clips are really cute and can easily fit in your purse pocket.

Have a blast in L.A.!!

The Art of Layering Tops

Hey Fashionista! The art of layering tops is one of the pillars of successful style.  I used to think that buying a new top and wearing it with jeans would suffice for long lasting style. Sure it looked fantastic when I first wore it out on a date - I felt like a million bucks.  But after a few washes and outings later, that ensemble suddenly found its way to the back of my closet.

Why does this happen...all the time? Because one piece of clothing does not have the lasting power to uphold true style time after time. If it did, it would be called a uniform...and, who wants to wear one on a date?? ;)

The good news is that you don't have to stop wearing your favorite top with jeans - or any other combo you gravitate towards. You only have to layer in other pieces to achieve style success!

To show you how to do this, follow these steps (below) to be successful at the art of layering tops!

1.) First...Wear your favorite top...a t-shirt, tank or camisole. *Make sure this piece fits you well.

2.) Add a collared shirt (mix in a pattern or texture here - like plaid or chambray!) **Always a good idea buy these pieces a little loose so you can comfortably fit a tee or tank underneath.

3.) Since we're getting into Spring time, it'll still be nippy outside on occasion. So, layer a cardigan...Boyfriend cardigans are my favorite. *Always buy these one size larger to avoid bunching and tightness that often occur when layering multiples pieces together.

((Here's my version of step 1-3...a white racerback tank, chambray and gray boyfriend cardigan. Depending on where you're going/what you're doing, you can make it simple like this or add fun colors and prints. The choice is yours!))

4.) If it's super cold outside, layer a vest or jacket on top. (You can add a cool color or print!)

5.) Top it off with a belt at the waist! (Go for a great color here too.)

6.) As for accessories, you can add a scarf or a great statement necklace to the mix!

If there's anything to take away from this post, it's mix and match different layers. One piece of clothing won't uphold true style, so have fun with this!!

I hope you enjoyed the art of layering tops! Feel free to share this post on Pinterest (sharing icon at the top of this post!), Facebook or Twitter! Wishing you a fabulous week, Fashionista!
