One Style Tip for Your NYE Ensemble

Hey Fashionista! Are you ready for tomorrow's countdown to the new year?? Lord knows I am. I can't wait to celebrate 2014 so I can feel optimistic about the future again. :) Every new occasion or holiday on the horizon always brings up the question: "What will I wear?" Usually some sort of dress comes to mind - at least, for me.  But it sometimes feels a little 'been-there-done-that.'  I crave variety in the 'style department!' -- always! So I thought about how I can add extra style 'oomph' to my dress combination.  Not only add oomph, but also add a bit of warmth to a chilly New Year's Eve night would be nice! As I was having a meltdown in my closet about what to wear tomorrow night and also what tip would help you out! I found this one style tip for your NYE ensemble that satisfied my curiosity!

Read below for full details!

Look in your closet! You know all of those adorable button-up collared shirts and cardigans you have in your closet?  Pull them out (your favorite ones) and layer both on top of that dress that's dying for a night out.

For accessories: Pick either a fancy, sparkle-y belt  to place at the waistline of the dress or a fancy statement necklace to anchor this look down. I loved wearing my white bubble necklace with my Loft cardigan and button-up blouse.

Look in the back of your closet!! Do you have a pair of bridesmaid shoes in the back of your closet? Those can be worn too! I wore mine from my BFF's wedding - mmmm, about 5 years ago! But they totally worked with my navy blue and white polka dot dress (from Delias!!)

This one style tip for your NYE ensemble will create a one-of-a-kind style statement at your New Year's Eve party tomorrow night.  And why wouldn't you want that? Being uniquely you has a pretty great perk: knowing you'll be the only one wearing that exact outfit among the crowd.  ;) Sweet, huh? Wishing you the BEST year yet, Fashionista! Stay safe and have a wonderful time! Lots of love to you!!

How to Create A Christmas Party Outfit From Your Closet

Hey Fashionista!!!
Merry Christmas Eve, Eve!! We're only two days away from Christmas and perhaps your biggest parties are still before you?  If that sounds right and you're not interested in spending more money on a party outfit but need one, stress no more! I've pulled together my party-ready ensemble from my closet - (well, except for the peplum top I bought from Forever 21 the other day) so you can create a spectacular Christmas party outfit from yours, too!

Mix & Match & Layer

This outfit is actually mixed and layered with a dress. My favorite sequin peplum top (from Forever 21) slipped right over my white dress (from Victoria's Secret) without a fuss.  This idea isn't so mainstream, but it is worth considering when you are conserving cash.  Many dresses can look like beautiful skirts as long as the top portion of the dress is basic and plain.  Can you imagine wearing a top over a ruffled-top dress? It wouldn't work out so well - aesthetically speaking. :)

Bring on the sparkle.
You know how Halloween is that one time of year you can dress however the hell you want and be whoever the hell you want to be? That's what Christmas is like to me - except instead of a costume, it involves sequins!  Wherever you can incorporate sequins into your ensemble - the better. For me it was my peplum top.  But it can be your pumps, your skirt, a cardigan or your clutch! The sky isn't the limit here....and there's no such thing as too much sparkle during the holiday season. ;)

Keep it classy, babe.
I love classic colors like black and white during the Christmas season.  As I've mentioned before, it looks fancier than maybe, it actually is.  So narrow down your major pieces to those colors. Black tops, black skirts, black dress, or white too.  If you're more comfortable with pants, look for them in those colors.

Scrounge Your Accessories.
Ok, so we've met.  You know I'm an accessories girl.  I even have an accessories shop to prove my love. (haha)  There's a reason for this: accessories change up the look of an outfit EASILY and with hardly any money invested at all.  So, really play up this part of your outfit.  I loved adding a red flower pin to my red belt.  Just because an accessory comes a certain way, doesn't mean you can't add to it, like I did with my belt and flower.

Also! Don't forget about adding color to your nails.  I'm wearing my favorite red polish with this look! Shoes can also display pops of color too.  Include scarves into your accessory plan. I often wear it like a statement necklace at parties because it's freakin' cold (at least at night) this time of year.

So, Fashionista, here are my tips on how to create a spectacular Christmas party outfit from your closet.  If you find yourself without any sparkley items, I give you permission to shop at Forever21 where you'll spend the maximum of $20 on a sparkley piece.  Otherwise, you're totally set with the clothes you already have! Style it up and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas, Fashionista.  Lots of love to you and your family!!

Dress Comfortably Fancy for Christmas Parties!

Hey Fashionista!!
Lately, I'm all about feeling stylishly comfortable in all aspects of my attire,
especially Christmas party attire!
While gathering outfits together for upcoming events,
I've figured out a few ways you can fake
fanciness without all that unneeded fuss that comes with looking gorgeous!
Anything too fussy or demanding just doesn't float my boat.
And doesn't HAVE to float yours either.
So here are my tips to dress comfortably fancy
 for Christmas parties!

Wear Cotton (or Cashmere).
My little black dress (pictured above) is 100% cotton. And it is theeee comfiest LBD I own.  Because of its v-neck and structured looking features, it can pass for a fancy dress for a semi-casual Christmas party.

My cardigan sweater is also made of super soft cotton and cashmere (which feels amazingggg on the skin). It totally passes as a fancy cover up because of the extra flirty details, like the uneven hem that's reminiscent of a ruffle-y dress.
(Which brings me to my next point)...
is in the right color.

Wear Rich Bold Colors.
If you have a dress with structured details in a soft material, then make sure it's in a rich bold color, like black or red. No one will ever notice that you're wearing a pajama-like ensemble, as long as it's in a vibrant hue.

Wear Flats.
When I say flats, I mean any shoe that is flat, like regular flats or even flat boots.
They are so comfortable and the great thing is that there are so many flats out there beautifully embellished in fashionable sequins, multiple colors and prints that will look dazzling with your party outfit!

Add pattern.
I loved adding bits of pattern to my scarf and my tights.
The texture and color pop makes a solid-colored dress and cardigan more stylish.
If you find yourself with a solid colored dress and sweater combination,
add pattern to your accessories - like a scarf, tights, your handbag, or shoes for a fancy affect!

So, Miss that you know my secrets on how to dress comfortably fancy for Christmas parties, use them! Implement them so you don't have to waste your time pulling on your super hot (but way uncomfortable) dress that will only infringe upon your lovely Christmas party time. :)

The Tulle Skirt

Hey Fashionista!
We've officially entered DECEMBER!
I can finally come out of the closet and
celebrate Christmas without criticism. ;)
Like last year, I'm beginning each week in December with a
holiday style tip that will help you look fabulous during the holiday party season.
Everything I'm suggesting is what I've concocted from my own wardrobe
and find easy, affordable AND comfortable to wear.
(because....I'm a hardcore believer in comfortable clothing for every occasion...
even on your wedding day!!)
Yes, I'm that serious. ;)
So now that we got that squared away..
let's carry on to my first holiday post of the season: The Tulle Skirt!

If there's one piece worth buying for holiday parties this month that will fulfill multiple purposes/functions, it would be a tulle skirt. The tulle skirt to me is like denim jeans. You can dress it up or dress it down.  Add a blazer, or a white t-shirt.  Wear pumps, or converse. They go with just about everything.

When shopping for a tulle skirt, make sure it fits your waistline - not your hips.  That way it creates a lovely hourglass shape that I'm always preaching about in my posts. Because truth be told, you have a beautiful figure. Wearing a skirt that fits your waistline will only ENHANCE it. ;)

Accessorize with a belt when you can.  It can be a bright color, like red, or sparkley, or in a metal tone, like gold.  Whenever I'm wearing a waistline skirt or pants or shorts that highlights my waistline, I like to add a belt to further accentuate that area.  And add loads of style to my look.

Tights are always a fabulous choice during the winter season.  It will most likely be cold where you're at, so tights will keep you warm and stylish. I liked contrasting my blush pink tulle skirt with black nylons and black pumps. It gave it a fancy glamorous look.
You can go with black or a nude color - or even have fun with a color or print!

Have fun with your top too.  Make it colorful or come alive in a nice print.  You really can't go wrong. Most tops flatter this skirt. In fact, go pull out your 3 favorite tops from your closet right now.  I guarantee it will go with your tulle skirt and look glamorous for your holiday party.

All in all, if there's ONE item of clothing that will WORK for your holiday look,
be as versatile as denim,
it would be the tulle skirt.
Dress it up with your best jewels,
your favorite blouse,
and a pair of tights and you will be set to go to your
holiday parties!!
I hope you enjoyed today's post, Fashionista!
Happy Holidays!

3 Easy Ways to Glam Up Turkey Day Attire

Hey Fashionista!  Can you believe Thanksgiving is just three days away? I don't know where the months went, but I'm guessing by the time I finish typing this post, it'll be Christmas! ;)

All joking aside, Thanksgiving day is one of my favorite holidays because of the time spent in gratitude with the people I love and have blessed my life tremendously -- especially this year. Usually a fancy ensemble marks this occasion, like I've written before in previous Thanksgiving posts.  But this year is a little different for, actually a lot different. Earlier this year, I lost a very special person from my life that happened to be my best friend and also my mother. It's an understatement to say that life hasn't been the same without her.  My mom was my side-kick, the person I told everything to and had to have her opinion on what to do next. Some days it feels like half of my heart is missing because she was so much a part of me. We hadn't always been this close, but I'm grateful life allowed us to be the last few years of her life.  What I'll remember most about her was her 1,000 watt smile and laughter that lit up a room. Her positive attitude, which not only stopped me from throwing in the towel on my dreams - numerous times, but inspired a whole community of readers who followed her work.  She believed in me, she cheered me on (countless times with my blog :), she held my hand during the ups and downs in my life and she was a living example of what it meant to go after your dreams.  This holiday season won't be easy to experience without her... My heart will weep for the spaces she filled with so much love and laughter.  But, I will hold the ones I love a whole lot closer than before and feel grateful for the wonderful times I shared with my mom... <3 font="">

Maybe this year, you have tons on your to-do list or are experiencing a loss during the holiday season - or maybe you just want to easily put together a stylish outfit without all the stress! Those are all really great reasons to read these 3 easy ways to glam up Turkey Day attire - which will help you pull off big style with little effort.

And why not apply all that extra energy you would have used on yourself to where it matters most? :)

Check out my 3 tips below....and get to celebrating with your loved ones. :)

1. Wear a Sassy Printed Shoe.
A fabulous pair of shoes is an easy way to glam-up a casual ensemble, like t-shirt and jeans.
It could be this exact pair or it could be something similar.
The point is to select a print or colorful shoe that is a bit fancier
than your jeans and top.
But in order to balance this look, bring a fancy clutch to go along with it. ;)

Or if you'd prefer wearing boots -- make sure you wear printed boot socks like I did here!
Black, white and grey boot socks (with lace trim) from

2. Make a Statement w/Jewelry.
Let's say we're continuing on with our jeans and top theory...
Another way to look stylish easily is to put a statement necklace on it!

Bubble necklaces are another fabulous statement piece you could easily wear with your favorite pair of jeans and blouse. I have three at my shop (in navy blue, white and light blue!) for $29.99.  You can check them out here--->!

3. Don a Pattern & A Collar.
Last eassssy peasy way to glam up Turkey Day attire is to pick a print for your top.
So...instead of plain ole' white blouse, how about pink, with black polka dots?
Or checkered? Or stripes? Or plaid?
Also, choose a top that has a little more structure,
like this collared blouse above.
While it's looks too restricting to wear,
it's really isn't the case.
So long as you find and wear a collared blouse in a soft cotton with room to move,
it'll be your winning combo to effortlessly glam-up your Thanksgiving Day style.

My beautiful Mama...
A woman who marched to the beat of her own drum
Loved life and never let anything get her down.
I'm thankful for the lessons you taught me and the love you gave me.
I love you & miss you...

These 3 easy ways to glam up turkey day attire is meant to add a lot flair to your most favorite jean and t-shirt duo with very little effort.  Just add your favorite tip into the mix and you'll feel T-day ready! Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving, Fashionista, filled with laughter and love.

Love & Hugs,

How to Buy Everything You Want Without Breaking The Bank

Hey Fashionista!  Now that 'Black Friday' and the holiday shopping season are about to commence, I want to share my favorite tip that will show you how to buy everything you want without breaking the bank.  It's one of my favorite shopping tricks that leaves me feeling satisfied with my shopping ventures every time!  But let me stop right there and acknowledge what you MUST be feeling.  This idea sounds like a load of crap, right? Haha Right. It's okay, if you think so. But let me assure you that there's something in my post today that might catch you by surprise. So stay with me.

When you're shopping at the most delicious store where you could devour everything off the shelves, I want you to actually GIVE IN and GRAB EVERYTHING your heart desires.

Unleash the little kid inside of you that dove right for the jelly beans and gum balls at the candy store. Go crazy. Get everything that makes your heart sing. The flirty frocks, the sparkley cardigan, the perfect pair of jeans.  Even the last pair of flats and cocktail ring. THEN...take it all into the dressing room.

This may seem like counter-intuitive advice...or an ass backwards way of thinking that's guaranteed to leave you in debt or homeless, but trust me, I've got a little trick up my sleeve that will reel you back in...

Here's where the magic begins....

This process is a lot like try stuff on to see if it's a good fit.  Some might look okay, some might not flatter, but there's always that one piece that'll make your eyes light up.  So...take everything into the dressing room and let the dating...I mean, process begin! :) :)

FIT! How does it wear? Take note of how it fits your body. It MUST flatter.  See if that pattern really accentuates your figure.  Check if the material is really breathable. Can you see through the fabric?  This is easy to catch upon first sight.

A Color Match?? Taking stock of how your selections REALLY hold up on your figure is a great start.  But you must also see how the color looks with your skin tone. How does that blush blouse look with your creamy complexion?  Does it wash out your color? Or does it enhance it? Leave it or take it based on the way it flatters your pretty hue.

Priorities! Which event takes priority now? Is your significant other's holiday dinner high on your priority list? Or do you maybe have a few dresses you can re-accessorize at home?  Or maybe you are down to your last blazer and need a new one - which might have to take priority this time. Making these distinctions will be important to deciding how to best invest your hard earned dollars.

HERE'S THE MYTH: We are terrified to allow ourselves to try everything that catches our eye. We think we'll lose our minds and spend ourselves into debt.  Or overspend on pieces that don't look great on us.  Not the case.  By using my favorite technique (The Process of Elimination), you're free to explore what you love so that you can discover if it's a good fit without overdoing it.  You'll wind up picking pieces that actually fit and flatter you and your budget without feeling like you've left thousands of great options behind.  Reverse psychology? Maybe. But you're just having your cake and eating it too. ;)

So, Fashionista, I want you to go shopping and throw caution to the wind.  BUT do take your brain with you.  Scrutinize. See what ACTUALLY flatters your figure and your skin tone. Then ask yourself what type of clothing is priority? A fancy dress for Thanksgiving dinner with your significant other's family? Or a new work jacket? Then decide where to invest your money.  That's it! And that is how to buy everything you want without breaking the bank! I hope you enjoyed today's post! See you next time!

How to Style Boots With Boot Socks

Hey Fashionista!

I think I have a bit of a reputation as the 'angry lady' who rants about the disappointing weather in Southern California. I've mentioned it on Instagram ohhhhh a few dozen times; even listed all the reasons why I can't wait for cold weather to arrive, and outed my vendetta against 80 degree November days. Haha. So, if I've given off that impression, then ok. It's not far from the truth. LoL Why? Because I LOVE, love, love the fall and winter season.  And this one isn't living up to the kind of weather I favor this time of year. (Maybe I should move to the east coast? Ha! jk. :)

So, while it's shooting into the 80's today, I'm going to imagine it's cooler and share with you my favorite images taken from my Pinterest hunt that will guide you on how to style your boots with boot socks!

Okay...I lied.
This one isn't from Pinterest.
It's my #ootd (outfit of the day)!
A fun combo to try!
Grab a pair of stripe socks
(in your choice of color!)
UGG Boots
Looks great with any type of bottoms:
denim, leggings, shorts, or skirt.
{{Oh, and as mentioned above, it was 82 today
and below zero in my house.
So this was the outfit that made fashionable sense to me.
Hence my laughter.

I'm all about frills and lace.
Especially when it's peeking a few inches above your boots.
It's such a fun flirty way (in my opinion)
to show off your girly side.
Boot socks from

Basic boot socks are super important.
They go with any type of boot.
While I have a pair in white, I say...
Bold is better.
Try a deep purple.
Or a pop of blue!
While this link leads to nowheresville on Pinterest,
Foot Traffic - my favorite accessory shop,
carries an array of these boot socks for cheap!

Short lace-up boots can benefit
from boot socks too.
Heavy knits are not only warm,
but fun too.
Don't forget a pair when
wearing these type of boots!

Colorblock boot socks are uber cute too.
I like how this Fashionista wore them in such a way
that you can see both shades together.
Makes footwear extra fancy-schmancy.
Again, don't forget boot socks with these kind of boots!
You'll be missing out on a style opportunity here!

High boot socks with short boots.
a DO.
While I've never tried this one before,
I feel inclined to do so this season.

As you can see, there are several ways to bring high style to an everyday piece, like boots.  The added benefit of styling your boots with boot socks is that you're creating a different look each time.  Never looking the same and always keeping 'em guessing.  So don't fret if you can't afford a ton of new boots. Just stock up on boot socks and tights to make them fresh each time! I hope you're enjoying boot sock weather wherever this post may find you!! And enjoy it for me too! ;)  See you next time!

Dress For What You Want In Life

"You can have anything you want in life,
if you dress for it." - Edith Head

Hey Fashionista!
I picked out this quote for you, especially for Monday because...
For one: Monday's doesn't exactly elicit positive feelings...naturally
Two: We always have the ability to change our mindset...for the better
And Three: Style is like action, it speaks louder than words...and attracts what we want
It can say: I want this job. I want this client. I want to feel beautiful even if the day is busy and tedious. I want to feel pretty when meeting somebody new or my other half.
So, what do you want?
Now? Today?
This evening?
Think about it and then....
Go to your closet and dress for what you want in life!

And if nothing major happens, at least you're making one person happy...YOU!

Enjoy your Monday, Fashionista!

How to Pick Out Your Birthday Suit

Hey Fashionista! This weekend I celebrated my 30th birthday.  It wasn't the typical all-out fancy bash that one might think of having on a big milestone like this. It was more of a cozy, fall-style, intimate gathering at my house with my close friends and hubby.  We spent the afternoon into the wee hours of the night eating my delicious pot roast dinner (if I do say so myself ;) gulping fall-themed adult beverages (with a side of Starbucks!).  The majority of the night involved laughing incessantly at our incomprehensible jokes while carving pumpkins violently --- because obviously it's a contest!

Allison and me!!
Discussing how we'll still be doing this when we're 85 years old!
Oh...did I mention we busted out Jenga inbetween that time?
Jenga is...the best. game. ever.

Jumping a few steps back to when I woke up one thing that was hugely on my mind was: what am I going to wear?? I don't care if you're sitting in front of the TV all day or hitting up Vegas, your outfit is the marker of your special day.  It's important to put some thought into it. Make it count and most importantly make it reflect the person you are. So to get you going....I've outlined two things to ponder that will guide you on how to pick out your birthday suit!

Like my birthday suit?!
Top: Victoria's Secret - Shorts: LOFT Crop Pants (cut into jean shorts)
Belt: LOFT -Socks: Victoria's Secret Pink -Shoes: Converse

1. What type of day will you be having?
Mine was casual. Dinner with friends at my place and having fun over conversation, So I chose my favorite casual attire - which were: white jeans shorts, blue slub tee and jazzed it up with a braided belt, knee socks and converse.  I contemplated getting a little more dolled up for dinner, but we carved pumpkins beforehand, so I skipped it!

Think about the activities you are doing for your birthday.  Figure out what part of the day you will make your mark in honor of your birthday and then ask yourself....

2. How gussied up do I need/want to be?
Is it glamorous? Or is it casual? What you will do to celebrate your birthday will determine the answer. Dining at home means you can dress however you want. Casual or fancy. But going out to dinner and having drinks calls for a killer dress or posh jeans with stilettos.

{{Pictured to the right: My Bestie & Me!! Can you believe we've known each other since the 5th grade??? I feel so blessed to have such a great friends in my life to celebrate these milestones with!}}

All in all, I enjoyed the simplicity of good old fashion fun with my besties. My casual attire provided the style I needed to ring in my 30th year and the comfort to do all the activities I wanted for my big day. So, think about these two questions, but most importantly, figure out what you want to do: whether it be a big bash or something more mellow and casual.  Which ever option fills your heart with joy is the answer.  Just always make sure you're following your heart, Fashionista. Wishing you a fabulous upcoming birthday and a beautiful week.

Translate Summer Staples into Fall Necessities

Hey Fashionista! I'm not sure what the weather is like right now where you live, but if it's 90 degrees like it is here in Southern California, you're probably wearing your summer attire, thinking you should be wearing something that captures the fall season. Am I right? No worries, that is totally common for this time of year. In fact, today's post will guide you to translate your summer favorites into fall necessities - some ideas are great for warmer weather!

White Skinny Jeans --> Off-White Cords
White is perfect all year-round.
Spice up this season's white, with a 'weathered white' by going for an off-white.
Corduroy Texture = warmth, which will work for cooler weather.

Light Blue Chambray ---> Dark Chambray
Shorter days, darker nights calls for darker chambray!

Sundress ---> TRY Short Sleeve Knit Mini-Dress
Form-fitting and figure-flattering!
Add a comfy soft knit dress like you would add a t-shirt to jeans-
it goes with everything!
Go to for knit dresses!

Flip Flops ---> TRY Loafers
Loafers are like slippers that can be worn outside!
Depending on the finishes you pick, they can look fancy with a skirt, or chic with rolled jeans and a sweater, or can be house slippers.
Either way, these are as great a staple as flip flops!

Bikini Top ---> TRY Bralette

Deep v-neck blouses are huge this fall.
Wear a bralette for those peek-a-boo tops that will add a style statement!

Tank ---> TRY Button-Down Flannel Print
I jumped on the flannel bandwagon early.
Upon wearing this flannel, I found 18.....thousand other ways to style this baby up.
Pick up a flannel for your staple this season.

Beach-y Graphic Tee ---> TRY Favorite Football Team Tee
Do you love football?
Or do you love dressing up and going to football parties? Or the game?
Then make some time to scout out your favorite college (or NFL) tee that will become your weekend uniform - at least by day. ;)

If you'd like to learn how to make a scarf to wear on game day,

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on how to translate summer staples into fall necessities. All it takes is a few tweaks to uncover the right go-to pieces that will suit your everyday lifestyle. Leave a comment and let me know which piece you're excited to wear this season! Wishing you a fabulous fall day!
