Q & A Fashionable Thursday: Winter Nail Polish

Q: Hi Amanda!

I love your fashion blog- I am a fan! :) I am hoping you could tell me which nail colors are stylish for winter? I know red, white and green are great for Christmastime but, I want to wear something different in the meantime.  I was hoping to find another nail polish brand that's less expensive (than say, OPI) but doesn't skimp on the quality.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Rhode Island

A: Hi Tina!

What a great question! Winter-like hues are appealing to me this year, too!

I recently shopped at my local drugstore and found several winter hues that struck my fancy- and I know would strike yours, too!

My 3 favorite winter nail polish colors are --
1. "Bite Me" (pictured to the left - on the very left-hand side) it's a very deep dark shimmery maroon.  2. "I Got So Plastered" (in the middle) is a soft deep shimmery winter pink. And... 3."Deeper Dive" (to the right) is a fabulous ultra glamorous deep blue shade with lots of sparkle.  Not huge, rhinestone-sized sparkle but, more of a seductive sheen.  Right now I have "I Got So Plastered" on my finger nails and I'm about to paint "Bite Me" on my toes!  Do you need some quick tips on  how to paint your nails perfectly? Check out my post here!

And most importantly.....I found these winter nail polish colors from a brand that doesn't disappoint on quality and only costs $1.99!  The brand I'm referring to is: Spoiled by Wet n' Wild.  They have a great formula that dries quickly and also come in a wide n' fabulous range of colors!

I hope that helps, Tina! Enjoy your winter nail polish!

5 Fall-Winter Styles You Must Try!

5 Fall-Winter Style You Must Try!

1. Peplum Top
Definition:: Pep-lum [pep-luhm] - noun 1. a short full flounce or an extension of a garment below the waist, covering the hips.

Why This Style Rocks...
Oh, I can think of a dozen reasons, but the most important reason you should try the peplum top is to indulge your femininity! Not only is it this year's most feminine top, it's so easy to implement into work-wear, going-out-wear and casual-wear! Check out my peplum top pictured above.  Ultra feminine, right?  I love wearing it with teal or white denim jeans. It's the ultimate pretty & stylish statement that's easy to wear! Give it a try!

2. Large Polka Dot Anything

Why This Style Rocks...
I don't know a single Fashionista who does not smile when they wear polka dots! Polka dots are classic and embody timeless appeal.  Add a large polka dot sweater, flow-y skirt, or tights to your usual go-to's for an updated look!

3. Leather Leggings

Why This Style Rocks...
Who doesn't like channeling their inner-bad-ass? I know I do!  Leather leggings ooze "bad-ass" energy.  They are expensive - unless you go faux- but are oh-so flattering. Thanks to the natural thickness of leather material, these babies hug and accentuate every awesome inch of your curves!  Not to mention, black provides a natural slimming effect too! If you can fork over the extra dough, buy the real thing and wear them out with the ladies! Or on that special date. :)

4. Clutch
(As Your Main Handbag)

Why This Style Rocks...
Think about it. Do you reeeeally enjoy lugging around all that "stuff" in your hand bag? Do you reeeally use every single thing in your purse? If you answered 'no' to any of these questions, you must switch immediately! Clutches come in many vibrant colors and patterns with mucho adornment. Purses make bold statements now-a-days. Hunt down a new clutch and add into your daytime look. If you're hesistant, try it for a week and see what you think! Prepare for compliments and shoulder relief! :)

5. Chambray
(aka. Denim Top)

Why This Style Rocks...
I admit, I haven't added this to my closet...yet because I'm still searching for the right fit and the right shade.  There are many un-stylish versions out there, but once you anchor in an authentic, simple and classic chambray top, you'll have a best friend for life. Remember it's ALWAYS a good idea to add pops of color here. They fancy-up this laid-back style. Pair them with colored denim, cords, leggings and skirt!

I hope you enjoyed 5 Fall-Winter Styles You Must Try! Do you have a favorite style you would like to try or have already tried? Share with me in the comment section below! Wishing you a happy day, Fashionista!

Thanksgiving Style

Hey Fashionista!! Thanksgiving day (aka T-Day!) is just a hop, skip and a jump away!  Many of us will travel short or far distances to spend time catching up with family around the dinner table while devouring turkey, mashed potatoes, and many, many more scrumptious dishes. Lucky for me I have a short distance to go and lots of family to see -- which, is my favorite part of Thanksgiving day!  AND....Lucky for us, Thanksgiving is much more casual than Christmas.  Which means, dressing up for it will be easy and comfortable. Double-win in my opinion! ;) So, how does a Fashionista go about finding the perfect outfit for fabulous Thanksgiving style?

You have two options here: pants or dress.  That's it. Just kidding. There's more! Let's say you are a pant-girl.  What else should you add?

Pants, like denim jeans, colored-jeans, or leggings (preferably black, Fashionista) will do well. You already have at least one pair of each, so pick your favorite one and start your ensemble.

Add a nice knit sweater with a pair of boots, scarf or statement necklace and voila - you're set to go!

Maybe you prefer wearing a dress.  Awesome. Dresses are my favorite too.  Wear a shirt dress. Why? They are the BEST dresses to wear when you will should I say this??...enjoying a lot of food. :)  The shirt dress has a simple and stylish shape.  No need to feel self-conscious after indulging! All you need to add are tights (for style and warmth), boots and necklace to complete your look.

All in all, Thanksgiving style is about feeling relaxed and stylish.  There's no need to go all out - unless you want to, then by all means go for it! All you need to do is decide your level of comfort. Do you want to wear pants or a dress? Then choose accessories accordingly.  I hope you and your family have a fantastic Thanksgiving day, Fashionista. I want to THANK YOU, for being a loyal reader!  Your support and words of encouragement are so appreciated.  I hope you have a beautiful week! See you after T-Day!!

Love & Hugs,

Q & A Fashionable Thursday: Hourglass Shape

Q: Hi Amanda!

What type of clothes fit with the hourglass body shape?

- G.
Saudi Arabia

A: Hi G!

Lucky you! Hourglass body shapes are highly sought after. Major stars like, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez are stunning examples of the hourglass shape. From top to bottom, your figure is gracefully balanced. Top stylists always strive to create this balance when dressing their clients!  ;)

When selecting tops, keep in mind that you always want to highlight your waist!  The best tops for hourglass shapes are: belted tops, tops with banding or "nipping" at the waist, form-fitting tops, wrap style tops, and tailored shirts.

When you're shopping for bottoms, straight-leg and boot-cut will naturally accentuate the fabulous curves you possess! High-waisted pants and pencil skirts fit beautifully.  Skinny jeans or pants work very well, as long as you are wearing a top that balances your figure.

I hope that helps, G! Thank you for your question!!

Casual Style Inspiration Tips

{{Yep, Southern California is still warm enough for a bike ride in November..!}

Hiee Fashionista! Casual wear is an easy place to slack off.  We spend countless hours shopping for office wear or special occasion dresses, but very little time on defining casual style. I experience this dilemma often. Since I work from home, I have the luxury of wearing whatever the heck I want. I'm the boss. ;) However, it's a constant battle between staying in my cozy pajamas and changing into publicly acceptable clothing.  Sometimes I roll out of bed and start working in my pajamas and by the time I think about changing it's already lunch time. Yikes! lol It's safe to say one can easily get comfortable in the "no-style-zone."   In case you've found yourself in the "no-style-zone" on your days off and would love to re-define your casual style again, check out my casual style inspiration tips below.

Casual Style Inspiration Tips...

1. Go for colored denim. They are hot and easily stylish.

2. Choose a bold color top to accent your colored denim.
(Green + Deep Red is a winner!)

3. Or...Choose a bold printed top in multiple colors. Adds style easily!

4. Belt it with a neutral color like brown to anchor and balance out the colors.

5. Wear clothing and shoes based on your weather conditions. Capri colored denim and wedges worked well for me because it's in the 80's today!

6. Implement subtle jewelry around the neckline for a casual style impact. If you added a swanky necklace, you wouldn't be casual anymore.

7. Add a splash of texture and color in your bracelets.

Voila, Fashionista!  You've got easy casual style inspiration for after work or this weekend! I hope you've enjoyed this post. Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below - or 'Pin It' (button above!) to share with your friends!

Have a Fabulous Day!
