Fresh Patriotic Ensembles

Hey Fashionista! Memorial Weekend is here in 2 days! I'm sure you have something fun planned, like, hanging out on the beach, going to a friend or family member's awesome BBQ or entertaining at home.  Why not enhance your fun by wearing something patriotic to mark this special holiday? Instead of going for the old tried and true staples (flag bikinis, flag tank tops, or flag shorts) I'm all about freshening up our red, white and blue in fun unexpected ways! Here are my fresh patriotic ensembles that will help you break out of the patriotic "norm!"

White shorts, jean shorts, blue flip flops, polka dot or strip tanks in the colors red, white, and blue are easy ways to incorporate patriotism into your ensemble that look chic and stylish!

Rompers are awesome for warm weather BBQ parties.  Why not try it in a blue? Add red and white stripe flats and accessories in patriotic colors!

A lightweight scarf in red, white and blue is super cute with a white t-shirt and jeans!  If you're going somewhere that's cooler at night or breezey during the day, this will keep you warm and stylish during Memorial weekend.

Clutches are a MUST at parties.  Find one in patriotic colors like the one above. Add it with a blue and white polka dot dress or top and add lots of accessories for a glam look.

Blue and White Stripe Dresses are my favorite and super cute to wear when our patriotic holidays arrive. This is easy to jazz up. Add a red scarf, a patriotic purse or shoes and you're set!

Think outside the patriotic box! Not every red, white and blue piece needs to be stripes or polka dots...they can come in other cool abstract prints like in the skirt above.  As long as you're within the red, white and blue theme, you can still pull of a patriotic ensemble successfully!

Ahhh...the white dress. Has to be another favorite of mine. Goes with so many things, during many seasons. It's as appealing as the little black dress.  So...find your perfect little white dress and spice it up with red white and blue accessories.  I like the patriotic red and white stripe bangles, paired with solid blue and red bangles. Break up the color combo with gold to accent the overall look.

Patriotic holidays like Memorial Day and Fourth of July does not mean you have to wear the same thing year after year. Break out of your rut and add these fresh patriotic ensembles to help you enjoy your memorial weekend to the fullest! Have a SAFE & FUN weekend, Fashionista! Feel free to post what you wore on my facebook wall --->

Swimsuit Trend: Poolside Glam

Heyy Fashionista!
This Summer's swimsuit trend: Poolside Glam is so chic and classic.
Personally, I see it as a hidden trend that is re-emerging.
Back in the 1950's, modest one-piece swimsuits were the only way to swim in public. Now, times have changed and swimsuits have shrunk leaving little to the imagination.
Of course, bikinis are super cute and very appealing, but why not bring a little variety into our usual swimsuit routine and try poolside glam?

Here's how to do Poolside Glam...
All you need is one modest one-piece swimsuit that mimics a glamourous strapless dress.
The prettier the fabric the better.  I like the chiffon-style fabric used on the swimsuit below.
THEN...add an oversized floppy hat - preferably with a flower motif.
ADD...Oversized brown (or black!) sunglasses with floral or jeweled sandals.
FINISH Off your look with a loose cover-up in white and a dazzling beach bag - that mimics a Chanel purse!

The perfect places to try poolside glam is at a hot retro resort like Palm Springs, California. Or at an upscale hotel in Las Vegas.

Now that you know how to pull off this swimsuit trend: poolside glam, will you be trying this look on your next vacation? Let me know in the comment section below. Thank you for reading, Fashionista!

Q & A Fashionable Thursday: Casual First Date

Q: I have a sort of first date tomorrow, but we're just getting coffee. I've been struggling with what's a good outfit for this kind of occasion and obviously want to make a good first impression! Any suggestions?

Sam K.

New York, NY

A: Hi Sam!

How exciting! Coffee dates are always great and easy to dress for!

I would wear something more casual, yet cute. And, it also depends on what the weather is like in your area. If it's warm, I would wear a simple (spring) dress with a jacket (you can go with a boyfriend blazer or leather jacket) and flats. Add some great accessories - chunky bracelets or long necklaces are fun!

If it's cold (and rainy like it is here in Southern California!) I would pull out your favorite pair of jeans, add boots, a brightly colored top (if you don't have any that make you feel fabulous - you can pick one up from Old Navy for a few bucks!) add a scarf with some great earrings, which will make your outfit pop nicely. :)

Have a great time on your date, Sam!
