2010 Oscars Taught Me Daring is Beautiful Too!

Ohhhh the Oscars! The most riveting moments of fashion history are made on The Red Carpet. So many women looked stunning and elegant - as usual, while others were daring! When it comes to the Red Carpet, you ought to push the envelope! Penelope Cruz and Kristen Stewart were among the list of celebrities who played it safe. They wore common colors like black and widely acceptable silhouettes like the mermaid fit. While these are great choices, they don't inspire.  The 2010 Oscars taught me daring is beautiful too!

Here are my favorite sparkling Oscar gems that rose above the cloud of familiarity.

1. Anna Kendrick Dazzled in Pink

2. Sarah Jessica Parker A Vision in Chanel Yellow

3. Vera Farmiga Fluttering in Fuschia

4. Zoe Saldana Sparkling in Givenchy Purple

5. Last but not least, Sandra Bullock Glistening in Marchesa!

Daring to be different means you dare to live out the qualities you desire most- regardless of what others might think of you.  There are many qualities to describe your unique daring fashionista-self.  It might translate into glamour, edgy, bold, sparkly, sporty, conservative, etc. -whatever fashion quality lights you up inside is your 'calling' quality.  Hang onto it - even if it's unusual. In fact, being unusual and "not safe" is better because you're not trying to be like everyone else.  You are daring to be YOU.  One of my favorite quotes comes from the movie: "What A Girl Wants." It reminds me to own my daring fashion qualities.  "Why are you trying to fit in when you were born to stand out?" When you're faced with a chance to look the way you want and not sure if you'll be laughed at, don't ask your bestfriend for confirmation- check if you're smiling.  If you are -buy it!

My favorite gown from the top 5 daring dresses is Zoe Saldana's sparkling Givenchy gown! I would love to strut my stuff down The Red Carpet in that gem! Oh sure, I would worry about the unforgiving fashion critics bashing the unusual hydrangea-looking pom-poms on the bottom of the dress. But guess what? Not everyone is going to like what you're wearing. It's just the way it goes.  So, the key to conquering your nay-sayer is to remember why you loved it in the first place.  For instance, I love the sparkling Givenchy dress because there is something bold, feminine, and daring that stands out from the crowd.  It hones a unique creative sense that blends classic, luxury and art into one silhouette -qualities I adore in daring fashion.  See what I mean? Focus on why YOU love it.

It's true, the 2010 Oscars taught me daring is beautiful too! Did it teach you that as well?  Want more ideas on what to wear out? Check out my picks of party dresses here! Also, cast your vote on your favorite daring dress at the Oscars! :)

Have a wonderful week! ♥
